WAGS Kicks Off April 1!!! Great Golf – Great Social…

WAGS is the Wednesday Afternoon Golf Society, a mixed group of golfers with one common love - great golf and great social.  It is open to all and all, ladies and gents, are very welcome 🙂

This year WAGS is being organised by Graham Blackwell, after many successful years from Dave Mackenzie.  Please let Graham know if you are free to play on Wednesday Afternoons - its 9 holes of competitive golf and an enjoyable social in the bar afterwards.

It starts anytime after 1pm and Graham will happily walk through how it all works with any potential new joiners - incredibly approachable group.  If you enjoy competitive golf and want to get to know some great new people - 'great golf and great social' is a great way to do it 🙂

In addition to thanking Dave M for all his hard work over recent years, also a mention for Richard Aldridge who led a fantastic Winter WAGS season - amazing attendances and importantly a great 'social break' to the week during the dark winter months.  Nice work Richard!

NB the WAGS competition is both a weekly unique comp and also a cumulative comp across the year.

So you can enjoy winning the week and also be part of a league that runs across the year.  You may never win a weekly comp, but your performance across the season could make you the season winner!  Your top 20 scores across the whole season are included - so any howling weeks, and we all have them, are discarded 🙂

Each week a contribution is made to the "WAGS wind up" - an annual social which features entertainment and prize giving

Clubhouse Staff Update

Clubhouse Staff Update

We’re very proud to share that Luke Viney will be leaving PRGC to take up a position at Pyrford Lakes Golf Club.

As many of you will know, relocating to Surrey has been a personal priority for Luke for some time and we are supporting the move in every way possible.

Over the past five years, Luke has grown with PRGC — from a part-time schoolboy helping in the clubhouse, to a highly successful apprentice, and as part of his development plan, the manager of our Pro Shop.

His enthusiasm, professionalism, and positivity have made a lasting mark on the club and everyone who’s had the pleasure of working with him.

While we’ll miss seeing Luke’s friendly face day to day, we couldn’t be happier for him as he takes this next step.

We’re confident he’ll bring the same energy and commitment to Pyrford that he’s shown here at PRGC and enjoy the same success.

Luke is remaining a member of the club for the next year and will be a regular and very welcome visitor.

Please join us in congratulating Luke and wishing him every success in this exciting new chapter.

Please also note that there will be some fresh faces joining the clubhouse team on a part time basis to cover Luke, please give them the usual PRGC friendly welcome and support 🙂

Policy on Incomplete 18‑Hole Rounds

Dear Members,

Please find below an important notice from the Ladies and Gents PRGC Handicap Committee

Policy on Incomplete 18‑Hole Rounds

To ensure fairness and consistency within our (the England Golf)  world handicap system, the club is making clear and transparent the policy regarding players who register for 18 holes but submit only 9.
Under WHS, incomplete rounds are processed using Expected Scores ie your front 9 stands and a personalised ‘expected score’ is applied to the back 9.  While this is appropriate in genuine circumstances, repeated early stoppages can distort handicaps and undermine the integrity of the WH system.
Effective immediately:
If you register for 18 holes, you are expected to complete all 18 unless prevented by a valid reason (e.g., darkness, weather, injury).  If there is a genuine reason please let the handicap committee or clubhouse know.
Any incomplete 18‑hole round will be reviewed by the Handicap Committee.
More than two incomplete rounds within 60 days will trigger a formal review and may mean a penalty is applied.
If you intend to play only 9 holes, please register for 9 holes at the start of your round.
Thank you for helping us maintain a fair and enjoyable golfing environment and remember; the World Handicap System always takes the best 8 scores from your last 20, so don't be over worried about submitting the odd bad score.
Kind regards,
The Handicap Committee

Barcilon Ladies Club Championship… New Weekday Format

PRGC Ladies Club Championships – New Weekday Format

Dear Members,

Last year, just 5 players competed across the two‑day weekend format, and many felt this didn’t reflect the spirit or scale of a true “club championship.”

PRGC Ladies have reviewed various options and taken steps to make the Ladies Club Championships more accessible and better supported.

The biggest change is for the Ladies Championship to be held during the week not over the weekend, which better reflects the current membership profile.

The Championship will be held across two weekdays and slightly later in the season than the mens.

Monday 21st September and Wednesday 23rd September.

And the early signs are encouraging — at this stage it is looking like 12 Players - more than double last year.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic championship this year, with a strong field and a great atmosphere.  More details to follow...

Barcilon Mens Club Championship – Great Response…

PRGC Mens Club Championships – New One‑Day Format & Sign‑Up Now Open

Dear Members,

Following extensive discussion with the membership — through forums, informal conversations, and invited email feedback — PRGC has taken steps to make the Mens Club Championships more accessible and better supported.

The biggest change for the Men’s Championship, is that it will now be played as a one‑day event on Saturday 27th June.

Last year, only 18 players competed across the two‑day weekend format, and many members felt this didn’t reflect the spirit or scale of a true “club championship.” While we knew not everyone would agree with the change, the overall response has been extremely positive from both low and higher handicappers.

And the early signs are encouraging — we already have 35 players signed up - nearly double last year.

Attached is the poster with full details. If you’re interested in playing, please let us know or add your name to the sign‑up sheet.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic championship this year, with a strong field and a great atmosphere.

Bruce is back and Practice Area New Signage

Great to see Bruce back in coaching action! and the new signage on the practice area looks great! Each Tee Off point for the 9 smart shots now has an attractive new metal 'smart shot sign'.  The team have innovated to help with the maintenance of the area - each Tee sign sits like a flag in a sunken 'cup' to make mowing easier.

Well done to Jack and the GK team who are working hard to continuously improve the area - one of the many upsides we are enjoying from the increased investment in GK resources.

At just £160 for 6 x 30 minute, private individual lessons, this is amazing value.  PRGC do not take any commission on lessons, all fees are paid directly to the pro, which allows Bruce to offer such a cracking deal.
